What Sites Should A Rapper Be OnIntroduction

Anywhere you can gain a single fan is a place where you should set up shop.

Every single fan counts! Why do you think I have talked to every single fan of mine since the very beginning?!

One By One those fans turn into 100’s of fans and then thousands of fans and so on until you are a star.

Take my advice here, Create and lock down all social media outlets with your artist name before someone else snags it.

People SNAGGED mine on tons of websites and pretended to be me!

Even if you aren’t ready to use that social media platform, you need to go grab those links so you at least own them and no one can pretend to be you.

I will link you to all of them below.

You will need a page for all of the following just for the basics.

I recommend that you lock down all of the sites but that you choose 2 or 3 specifically to completely build and master. This way you aren’t spreading yourself too thin or worrying too much about posting content everywhere.

Yes, there are things you can use that will post across all of your social media platforms but still, learning the ins and outs of just a few networks will help you market better and therefore gain more fans.

What Sites Should A Rapper Be Onsound cloud for rappers

Sound Cloud

The Benefits to you using Sound Cloud are:

1) Using a Sound Cloud link, people know that you are an artist because no one really uses a sound cloud link except artist, DJs and some Pod Casters. People have Sound Clouds to listen but they don’t go posting their link.

2) Since it is fast, people know it is fast and they can check out your music WAY quicker than a YouTube video loading up and streaming.

3) There a millions of users.
Sorry for lack of benefits, I’m not a huge fan or believer in Sound Cloud. You should still have one though.

The Negatives Of Using Sound Cloud Are:

1) There is no way to monetize your Sound Cloud. You can’t post ads on there and there is really no way to link those people to other sites quickly (a side from your bio links) to other Videos or Songs.

2) It is only Audio, there is no video. People in our day and age need audio AND visual stimulation to keep their attention and have a higher chance of retaining a new listener as a fan.

So you are stuck with just streaming music and as they listen they are probably looking for something else to visually stimulate them, such as comments or ways to click away from your Sound Cloud Page.

3) Sound Cloud may eventually die and be replaced by something bigger and better. So all the hard work you put into building a fan base on here can potentially be almost useless. If it stays active for years on end though, it isn’t bad to have a base here. But if they eventually start charging you to reach your own fans like Facebook did, you will be pissed.

What Sites Should A Rapper Be OnInstagram

Instagram

The Benefits to you using Instagram are:

1) I am going to teach you to automate it so you don’t even have to touch it and you can gain fans while you are sleeping. I’ll show you later in this guide.

2) Since there are so many people and hash tagging is so useful, you can gain fans out of no where just from using random hash tags. Someone stumbles onto your page and suddenly can become a fan.

3) Its straight to the point, pictures, a bio and a link spot for you to link to your music.

4) No one can clearly see you are liking photos and commenting like they can on Facebook (There are ways to see but it’s not publicly just thrown in your face like on Facebook)

5) There is video too! So you can upload Music video snippets

6) You can link your Instagram posts to your Tumblr, Facebook, and Twitter. Every time you post a picture or video it will get posted on those sites. What a time saver!

The Negatives Of Using Instagram are

1) I honestly can’t think of any.

Tip: Make sure you utilize the link spot in your bio. From there you can link straight to your music 🙂

What Sites Should A Rapper Be OnFacebook

Facebook Fan Page

Benefits Of Facebook:

1) Every one including your grandma uses Facebook now.
2) You are probably VERY familiar with it
3) It isn’t too complicated to get someone to like your fan page. It’s simply just a click away from their 4 hours they spend a day on Facebook.

Negatives Of Facebook:

1) Every one including your grandma uses Facebook now.
2) When you build a base on Facebook they charge you money for your own fans to see your posts.
3) Only 2% of your fan base sees your posts on Facebook unless you pay
4) Even on your main Facebook page your own friends and family don’t even get shown your content or posts like they should.
5) Facebook is dying for the younger generation that’s why Facebook bought Instagram.
6) I wasted time driving people to my Facebook fan page that I now have to pay $500 per post just to reach. Even when I pay to reach them, I still barely get interaction because the Facebook news feed is filled with complete useless garbage and shit from everyone posting and sharing brain cell loss content.
7) It’s Facebook

Reverbnation

Not Necessary, but make an account anyways to lock it down.

I was number 1 in Chicago for Hip Hop for 2 years straight before the Reverbnation charting system was completely destroyed and people with no fans or songs were suddenly ranking higher than me for absolutely no reason. That’s when I stopped using it.

They used to have a bunch of cool tools but… let’s laser focus on the ones that matter so you aren’t wasting your valuable mental pool.

Now, I honestly don’t care to even explain enough about it because it’s not something I want you to focus on.

Snap Chat

I don’t know how long SnapChat will be around, but as long as it is. You need one

Benefits Of Snap Chat Marketing

1) The picture disappears in 24 hours so you feel a lot more carefree posting your location and pictures.
2) Only friends who have your screen name see your snaps. Not strangers you don’t approve.
3) You can talk to hot chicks and no one knows lol.
4) Just add your Snap Chat name to your other profile bios, your friends will all add you to increase their SnapChat size as well.
5) Even people who aren’t fans will sometimes see your music if they are looking through their feed.
6) It takes effort for people to delete you from their Snap Chat, so even if you annoy them with marketing your music too much, chances are they are too lazy to delete you.

Negatives Of Snap Chat Marketing

1) Someone can just screen shot your picture.
2) It only lasts 24 hours, with some content like music, you just want it there the whole time, right?
3) Who knows how long it is going to be around.
4) It’s time consuming to delete annoying people.

What Sites Should A Rapper Be OnyouTube

YouTube

If you are an artist…. You need a YouTube Channel. Period.

Benefits Of Using YouTube

1) I am going to teach you to automate it so you don’t even have to touch it and you can gain fans in the next section.
2) YouTube is owned by Google. Google is one of the Top 3 most powerful companies in the world for a reason. This is proof that they will be here for a long long time.
3) You can make money using your fan base on YouTube!!!!! This is huge. If you build a fan base you can start monetizing your videos easily and make about $2 per 1,000 views you get. You can’t do this on any other platform. The other platforms charge YOU money to reach your fans. On here it’s the opposite.
4) Since it is YouTube it is AUDIO and VISUAL with triggers more senses in a new potential fan. When someone sees a video it distracts them from doing anything else but watching and listening and that is huge.
5) You don’t just have to post music, you can post videos showing more of who you are as a person. You can connect with your fans way easier this way. This is why a lot of musicians make scheduled videos on specific days every week at the same time. People get to know them as a person instead of just through their music.
6) Everyone is familiar with YouTube so they don’t have a problem clicking your YouTube link.

Negatives Of Using YouTube

1) You are competing with millions of other people on YouTube. But when aren’t you? That’s just life.

What Sites Should A Rapper Be Onwebsite

Your Own Website

Above all, after you think of your artist name that you are 100% certain you are going to stick with. You have to go purchase your site name so that nobody else can snatch it. Look at the ‘How To Make A Website For A Rapper’ for all the data on where to kick that off.

tip

Anytime a new Social Media platform arises, make sure to lock down your screen name and URL.

I lost my Instagram, Sound Cloud, SnapChat and others because of that.

Fortunately I convinced the Instagram kid to let me have my screen name since for him it wasn’t important and he thought it was cool that I asked him for it.

But on SnapChat I was stuck with a long ass name ‘NoviNovakVSOE’ which I now changed to ‘IamnoV’ so that it is easier to add me.

And my soundcloud is now just http://www.SoundCloud.com/NOV it used to be /NoviNovakVSOE and it was annoying af everytime I wanted to goto it lol

When you say “Add me on _____” to someone, no one is going to remember or want to type in a looooooong ass name. Make it as short as possible.

tip

Make sure your URL fits your name but also isn’t ridiculously long so it’s easy to tell people.
